Letter: Abortion of tiny infants is nothing to celebrate - let us celebrate life instead of murder by another name

There have been plans to light Belfast City Hall green to show support for International Safe Abortion Day

So, the elected council representatives on Belfast City Council are planning to illuminate the front of City Hall to ‘celebrate’ International Safe Abortion Day this month.

What a cause for celebration indeed! Shame on them. Even those council members who may identify as Roman Catholic have defied their own church’s opposition to this dreadful act of killing the innocent and defenceless in the womb.

Have we become a pagan people?

And what is the context of ‘safe abortion’? Safe for the mother-to-be? Certainly not safe for the living infant in the womb.

One wonders how many women there are in our own province who are living with the traumatic aftermath of having agreed to the end of the life of an infant which has grown, and moved, in their womb for months – and then they have given their approval to the destruction of that infant, by the most gruesome means imaginable.

If men and women in our province were to face capital punishment by the same means today there would be public uproar. And yet, the innocent, unborn, are aborted in the name of “women’s rights”, “freedom of choice”, “my body, my choice”. That tiny human being, conceived by God’s miracle of conception, has no voice in its defence.

There will be a price to pay for this, have no doubt.

“God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man (or in this case, a woman) soweth, that shall he (she) also reap” (Galatians 6:7).

There will be judgment to follow. Let someone have this proposal overruled before it is carried out. And let us celebrate LIFE while we still have it, instead of murder by another name.
