Letter: In reality, if a new official flag for Northern Ireland could be agreed upon, it would be bland and uninspiring

There is one major flaw in Micheal O'Cathail's proposal for a new "inclusive" Northern Ireland flag (A new NI flag that’s more inclusive?, February 9).

His proposed design of an Irish tricolour with the colours in reverse order is already in use as the national flag of the Ivory Coast, with the latter often mistaken for the former.

Whilst a positive idea in principle, I've always thought that in the rather unlikely event a new official flag for Northern Ireland could be agreed upon by all parties, the result would inevitably be a design so bland and uninspiring that no one will actually want to use it.
