Letter: Moving Belfast City Marathon to a Sunday was both unwise and unnecessary
A letter from Philip Campbell (Rev):
How sad that our city, once known for firm adherence to Christian principles, will again this year undermine the special nature of Sunday by holding the annual marathon on that day.

There are more than 100 churches on or near the marathon route, so it is not hard to see how Belfast's churchgoing community will be inconvenienced. And many Christians would gladly have supported or participated in the event, had it been held, as in previous years, on Bank Holiday Monday. The move to Sunday was both unwise and unnecessary.
The commandment says: “Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy.” When we do not, all of us are the losers.
