Letter: Pay rise for Stormont MLAs is outrageous and the body which recommended it should be stood down

A letter from Ronnie Crawford:

In Wales there are 53,000 people per Senedd member. In Scotland, there are 43,000 people per MSP. But there are only 21,000 people per MLA at Stormontplaceholder image

The proposed pay increase for MLAs has no basis in fact because any comparison with the other devolved institutions is irregular.

In Wales there are 53,000 people per Senedd member. In Scotland, there are 43,000 people per MSP. Here, there are only 21,000 people per MLA.

On an equitable basis we should have fewer than half the present number of MLAs. They cannot have it both ways.

The body which recommended this outrageous increase should be stood down and MLA pay should have an element related to collective competence.
