Letter: People of Northern Ireland have helped change lives and supported Concern Worldwide's long-term work with people living in extreme poverty
A letter from Jackie Trainor:

This year, as we mark the 40th anniversary of the opening of Concern Worldwide's office in Belfast, I would like to thank the readers of the News Letter for their support in 2025.
Over the years, the people of NI have played a vital role in helping to respond to emergencies and supporting our long-term development work with people living in extreme poverty.
Millions of lives have undoubtedly been saved and their circumstances improved, thanks to the overwhelming generosity of people here.

Four decades on, the commitment of local people is as strong as ever.
Our recently launched Water for Gaza appeal is on target to raise £250,000 to bring clean water to people in Gaza, thanks to the support of generous individuals and businesses.
Our exceptional 140 volunteers also play an essential role in keeping our charity shops open, adjudicating at our school debates, and fundraising for us in their local communities.
The hundreds of schoolchildren who take part in our Concern Debates programme every year are an inspiration as they explore how they can shape the future of the world we share.
The world is a very different place from what it was in 1986. Today, conflict, hunger and the impact of climate change, together with global aid cuts, mean the need for humanitarian assistance is greater than ever.
What remains unchanged, however, is our resolve to do whatever it takes to help those who have been impacted, and the generosity and dedication of people here to continue to stand with us.
Jackie Trainor, Northern Ireland director, Concern Worldwide (UK)
