Letter: Wall of hostility and bitterness on this island that blinds us from love must be torn down

The outrages we are once again experiencing in Ireland remind us that we live in a country full of walls that still separate and divide.

Walls of distance between people who live in different areas of the country. In the East and South - North and West.

Even so, many worthy friendships have developed across these walls, walls that our shared God wants to see torn down.

The God of us all has a wide embracing love that is too great to tolerate a world that includes parts of our country divided up by walls of suspicion which keep strangers at arm’s length.

The Apostle Paul from Ephesus reminds us that Jesus not only talked of love, he lived it and gave his life in the cause of love.

One wall we must demolish is the wall of hostility and bitterness that is so strong we fail to see and hear each other and blinds us from seeing how we can and must come together in love, mutual respect and justice and peace.
