Miscarriage can be a deeply distressing experience, often associated with grief, anxiety, and trauma (Fortnight of paid leave kicks in today for women who suffer miscarriage plus their partners, April 6).

Despite its prevalence, the psychological impact is frequently minimised or overlooked, particularly within workplace settings.

This new legislation marks a meaningful shift towards recognising miscarriage as a bereavement experience rather than a short-term medical event.

The inclusion of partners within the legislation is also welcomed, reflecting the relational nature of grief and the importance of shared support.
