Ms McDonald does not define equals to whom or to what.

Is Mary Lou now distancing herself from her friends in the IRA, who for 30 years carried out murder against the community she now says can be treated as equals?

I am not a member of the loyal orders, but no doubt the membership will be banging the drums, blowing the flutes and waving the flag with delight that Mary Lou will consider them her equal if only they will cede to a united Ireland.
