The nonsense about the Linfield kit and the UVF flag is just a row that takes jealousy of the football club to a new level

I felt I had to write after the nonsense comparisons people have made between the new Linfield FC away kit to a UVF flag.

There has always been a lot of jealousy of Linfield because of their incredible success domestically and in Europe, but this is on a whole new level.

Linfield is a professional football club, professionally run.

The kit is almost identical to a Man City away kit from a year or two ago, and is simply a contemporary design. Did City base their kit on a paramilitary flag? Or was it created by a design team who are in tune with the current preferences of the football supporting community?

Some supporters, generally the older ones, aren’t fussed on the new kit as it breaks from tradition. My son, who is 13, loves it, and he has never heard of the UVF.

Whether Linfield fans like the kit or not, their opinion will be based on the design of a football kit, rather than on the mythical story some disingenuous and unscrupulous people are attempting, without success, to create.

The other point to be made is that this has backfired on the Linfield haters — the online store has already sold out and my son will have to wait for his new kit. But we can wait.
