Politicians seem unable to condemn comment that police deserve the wall

I read with interest your report (September 21) on the transgender activist who claimed that the ‘cops deserve the wall’ and the support given from other groups in the LGBT spectrum who also get public funding.

(The article can be read here: ‘Director of group hired to train PSNI dubbed police racist oppressor pigs who deserve the wall’)

Even if these other groupings have not actually supported the contention that ‘cops deserve the wall’ by support of the individual concerned and their refusal to condemn the comment, I believe they have given what amounts to tacit support. Something akin to Sinn Fein’s refusal to condemn the IRA.

I watched with interest for the comment from our politicians, who, after all, fund these bodies, but to date I have heard nothing.

Do our quiescent politicians consider that incitement to put police to the wall acceptable behaviour from anyone, especially from those who receive public funding? Had someone suggested that members of the LGBT groupings ‘deserve the wall,’ I wonder if our politicians would be so quiet?

Or would the police force be so slow to take action?

I am particularly puzzled by the silence from the Alliance Party, which one would assume would be fully supportive of the forces of law and order. Especially as its leader is the current justice minister.

I am sure that the rank and file police officers are greatly heartened to realise that their politicians are apparently unable or unwilling to condemn those who call for them to be put to the wall.

Of course, while condemnation would be desirable from our political classes, a refusal to consider public funding for any organisation that advocates violence, or refuses to condemn those who do, would be a much better course of action,
