Remembering Roy Rogers on his visit to Belfast, 66 years ago

I read in Saturday’s News Letter a few notes you wrote about Roy Rogers his wife Dale Evans.

I was there with my mother and sister when he came to Belfast in 1954 — we were in the Opera House early and while waiting Roy Rogers and Dale Evans came in from the back and they had a long chat with my mother.

His horse was a Palomino horse called Trigger with a white mane and white tail and chocolate body.

Thousands of people came to the city centre when they rode down a packed Royal Avenue. The visited other cities in the UK, including Glasgow, and Liverpool and London and they visited Dublin.

His dog was an alsatian called Bullet.

I was 13 years old at the time — I am now 79.
