Synchronise the coronavirus response across the border, do not close it

A letter by Terri Jackson queried if it is time to close the border with the Republic, citing a claim by Leo Varadkar that there could be 15,000 cases in Ireland by the end of March.

North of the border, Robin Swann has claimed that the death rate in Northern Ireland could run to 9,000, and the suggestion is close the border.

It would be much better if we had co-operation across the border to save lives across the whole island.

Closing the border will not save lives but working, co-operating and synchronising efforts across the border just might. Put political differences aside, for once, and work for the greater good of all the people who share this small island.

The best protection and border against any infectious or contagious disease that we have on this small island, is the sea that surrounds us. Both jurisdictions should utilise this fact for the benefit of their citizens, regardless of political or jurisdictional allegiance.
