The Archbishop of Armagh should explain why he associates himself with political protest against UK bill

The Archbishop of Armagh, John McDowell, has put his name to a letter which accuses the government, amongst other things, of breaking the Good Friday Agreement in the Internal Market Bill.

(Brexit bill of utmost importance, Oct 20).

Why did the archbishop find it necessary to associate himself with this political protest?

I have searched through the Belfast Agreement but I cannot find reference to a border being set up in the Irish Sea or indeed any reference to no border in Ireland.

The question in this instance is was this in the agreement but concealed from the public before the referendum like the ‘Get out of Jail Letters’ and the people therefore mislead?

I was a loyal member of the Ulster Unionist Party for more than 40 years and a councillor for 12 years but I could not support the releasing of terrorist prisoners under the agreement and left the UUP and voted against the deal. I well remember the disgraceful behaviour in the King’s Hall by the supporters of the agreement against those who opposed it when the result of the referendum was declared.

I realised then that goodwill towards a minority was in short supply and did not bode well for the future.

I think that the public need to be informed now by those parties which supported the agreement and in particular the UUP as to what else may be in the Belfast Agreement that has been concealed from the unionist population.

There is also a question for both unionist parties as to why they are not strenuously opposing an Irish Sea border.

I also think the archbishop needs to explain why he supports the break-up of the UK.
