The DUP needs to admit it was wrong to put trust in Boris Johnson

Let us not just blame Arlene Foster and the DUP’s arrogance over Brexit and the new border on the Irish Sea.

Jim Allister, who like the other DUP MEPs Ian Paisley and Diane Dodds took a wage from the European Parliament, did not support being in EU (Sinn Fein don’t support being in the UK and do not take their seats in Westminster).

David Trimble, another Brexit lover who ignored the democratic wishes of the majority of the voters in Northern Ireland believed Boris and trusted him.

There are others who pushed for Brexit and cheered Boris at his crowning moment at a DUP conference in Belfast. Boris was their hero.

Then the knife was stuck into the backs of those delusional people who believed Boris and his party. We even had a threat and promise from one of those delusional people that he was taking Boris to the Supreme Court in London.That never happened surprise surprise but a border in the Irish Sea did.

In our unionist community there is panic, fear and division regarding the border poll speculation and a lack of leadership. How many of those who attended the DUP event with Boris or dinner in North Antrim with Jacob Rees Mogg as the main guest would vote for Brexit now?

Unionism is in such a bad place at the moment and it is not helped when we hear a ‘unionist’ calling upon unionists to vote for the DUP then claiming a vote for the DUP is a vote for the IRA.

The DUP needs to put its hands up and admit it was them that got it wrong trusting Boris and ignoring the voters who voted remain.

Maybe the next leader of the DUP will have the courage and wisdom to do so but I doubt it. We might not only see the break up of the Union but also the demise and break up of the DUP.
