The government response to Covid-19 is a threat to freedoms that we fought wars to preserve

The government in its response to Covid-19 continues to get us to jump through the hoops and we need to be careful, as they get smaller they could end up as a noose around our neck.

Aware of this, many people refuse to conform until government decrees are supported by evidence.

By accident or design, the government has created a climate of fear and tightened its grip.

I don’t like giving politicians that power. It could come back to haunt us!

If you step out from the crowd you become a target.

Those who claim they are wearing masks for the public good can often be self-righteous, even aggressive.

We should entertain the possibility we might be wrong, and if we are we may pay a high price. What is obedience to some is submission to others.

We should all give thanks we still live in a country where we are allowed to have an opinion, and express it. I fear that time is running out.

In this Covid debate we could so easily be deceived.

We fought wars to preserve our freedoms, now we are fighting a battle within, and each side has taken the moral high ground.

To get to the truth we have to search for it, examine all the evidence, and trust our own instincts.

Democracy is based on the principle of consent. Sometimes governments get round that by persuading us that what they are doing is for our own good. That’s a common theme in history and often ends in disaster: to prevent that we must exercise our right to question.

This choice goes deeper than the wearing of masks. It goes to the very source of power and who wields it: the government, or the people?
