The Irish Sea border separating Northern Ireland from Great Britain should be the last straw for unionists

As we enter Northern Ireland’s centenary year it is clear that unionists are not in the place they would wish to be.

The establishment of an internal border within the UK separating Northern Ireland from Great Britain should be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

For too long unionists have sat back while nationalism advanced and had political leaders who have lamentably failed. Sadly it seems unionists no longer have an end goal, never mind objectives to reach it.

All unionists wish to live in a prosperous Northern Ireland at peace with our nationalist neighbours, but unfortunately the goal of nationalism is for the destruction of our country.

They may talk about ‘an agreed Ireland’ but show an unwillingness to contemplate any vision for the future which does not amount to anything less than a united Ireland.

The time has long passed for all unionists to unite in their rejection of mandatory coalition, a tool Sinn Fein/IRA use to achieve their goal to de-British Northern Ireland.

It is absurd to think the party that controls the finance of our country wishes for that very country not to exist.
