We need a clear-out of unionists politicians, who have allowed this Irish Sea border with little protest

I have to agree with Ben Lowry on Saturday (‘Bogus denial of Irish Sea border illustrates this tragicomic saga,’ January 2, see link below) about the denial by the British government to there being a border in the Irish Sea.

It seems we have unionist leaders who are in denial as well.

Unionists are rudderless in the sea of lies and deceit that has been created by the government.

Before the border was erected, and there was talk of a border between the Republic and Northern Ireland that would involve cameras, we had nationalists and even the PSNI warning against republican violence and not having the personnel to police it.

Now it looks like the government, in collusion with the Republic of Ireland, has taken the easy way out by putting the border between this part of the United Kingdom and the mainland without unionist consent.

The threat of violence has won again!

We saw protests on the Republic’s border even before any agreement was made.

I have written before that we need a new unionist party and a clear-out of many of the old faces who have allowed a border, with little protest, in the Irish Sea.

They are even overseeing its construction. Some are ready for their big fat pensions and maybe even a reward of a seat in the House of Lords.

I cannot help thinking if the shoe was on the other foot, we would have seen more protest from republicans/nationalists, even withdrawing from the workings of the Belfast Agreement or threatening power sharing.

For things to continue as if nothing has happened could lead to an end to Northern Ireland being part of the UK.

What a legacy for many of these current unionist politicians, who canvassed and made a good living from stressing to people the Union’s great importance.
