Sad that a young female DUP leader is not moving them into 21st century

Sam McBride's article with Arlene Foster (January 12) was very good.

I have to say that as much as I am not a fan of the DUP I am delighted that we have a woman in the top job in Northern Ireland.

I personally feel that women make better leaders and are much better at making the tough choices.

They don’t worry so much about upsetting the apple cart so to speak.

I understand the DUP stance on equal marriage and gay rights within Northern Ireland (as much as I don’t agree with them) and will respect that this is their view point and respect their views as I try my best to respect anyone’s view point on a subject.

I take issue with one thing in this article that Mrs Foster said: “... make sure that what is possible for me is possible for any young girl or boy growing up in Northern Ireland”.

To be honest I find this line very hard to sallow as Mrs Foster and the DUP as a party don’t deem gay men and women as equal, they don’t even want gay men or women in the party as members never mind standing to rep the party.

So basically she is saying that she wants to make it possible for every young girl or boy that toes the party line.

If you want to get down to the Christian values we could talk about a female not leading over a male.

I could quote chapter and verse here but what’s the point when the DUP only read and bother with the things that suit their needs and agenda.

I had hoped that with a new leader and someone that was younger and female that the party may have wanted to move slightly into the 21st century, am sad to see that this will not be the case.

I just wanted to add my opinion to the mix.
