The conflict is about national identity and freedom

“I’m a unionist: and I will remain a unionist. A republican is a republican: and will remain a republican. I don’t want a united Ireland and he doesn’t want a United Kingdom to remain the constitutional status quo. Neither of us is right or wrong.”

That’s not the whole truth.

The conflict here is about national identity and national freedom. Irish people in Northern Ireland have a right to national freedom.

British sovereignty over Irish people is a denial of national freedom.

Irish sovereignty over British people would be a denial of their national freedom.

Consequently we need equal self-determination and equal sovereignty.
