The poppy is not a political symbol
The poppy is not a political symbol but a token of respect for and remembrance of those of all faiths and identities who defended the values which underpin the western world today. It includes the citizens of the (then) Irish Free State who joined the fight against Nazi Germany.
Considering the origin and stated aims of the Irish National Congress it would perhaps be more appropriate if you channelled your efforts towards explaining how the links between the Easter Rising rebels and the Second Reich or De Valera’s neutrality towards the Third Reich contributed to the modern western world.
