There is hope for every sinner and a way back from sin

Re Ruth Davidson ('˜Northern Ireland will soon endorse gay marriage,' August 3):

The article says she believes NI will “...endorse same-sex marriage as public support and a parliamentary majority overwhelms barriers to change”.

If Miss Davidson were a Christian she would know and appreciate that God’s law is not and cannot be overturned by public support for sin or a parliamentary majority.

The article refers to “Practising Christian...Ruth Davidson”.

See Romans 1.

It says “...she would love it if the Church of Scotland allowed her to get married in her own church”.

If she were a Christian she would be abhorred by the idea of anyone seeking such a blasphemous union within the courts of God’s own House; that He should bless and sanction what He has abhorred and abominated.

Miss Davidson says “...the waters are building and the dam will burst”.

Here I find myself in agreement with Miss Davidson. However, where she is referring to a dam bursting forth in sin, Christians see a dam bursting forth in judgement: “Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed” (Genesis 19:17).

What was it that God was pouring forth His judgement and wrath upon in Sodom but its very namesake – sodomy. God has not changed.

His Word and His warnings have not changed.

Miss Davidson has set herself against God – in word and action, and encourages others to follow her example.

Christians – those who have repented of their sins: who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and are trusting in His shed blood for the forgiveness of those sins: those who honour His Word and seek by the enabling of the Holy Spirit to walk in the light of that Word – have no doubt as to who will have the final victory: “He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision”.

“All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out” (John 6:37).

There is hope for every sinner and a way back from sin if we will but come to Him.

Coram Deo.
