Trump supporters have core US values

I refer your readers to an article on Donald Trump written by a distinguished journalist in an influential national newspaper.

The article was highly critical of Trump but ended up paying him a backhanded compliment. He indicated that many of the people who supported Trump were evangelical Christians whose strident views on teaching creationism in schools, marriage, abortion and immigration had contributed to an atmosphere of hate sweeping America.

As I read this I realised these values used to form the very bedrock of all things American.

People, who with increasing intolerance vehemently rejected these values, have spawned a whole culture of hate that runs to the very core of the nation and is hostile to Bible believing Christians.

This ancient landmark has been removed and there is no longer any instrument they can trust to measure truth anymore – the result is confusion and chaos.

Trump is not the cause of the American malaise, he is a symptom and we are all its victims.

By treating all his political opponents with total contempt the writer continued to garner support for Trump. He concluded with the inference that if he was faced with the choice between Trump and Clinton he would hold his nose and vote for “horrible, clever Hillary”- in other words, more of the same.

It’s like putting sticking plaster on a festering wound that needs lanced.

As the migrant crisis in Europe spins out of control, democracy is now on trial and it’s not coping. Who would seriously suggest the malaise now troubling America won’t arrive here and mutate into a more virulent form.

Instead of pillorying those who support Trump, we should point the finger of blame at the people who created him. For forty years false prophets have peddled the lie and bullied people into accepting the gospel of political correctness.

They have fashioned an idol and unbelievers are now threatening to tear it down. If it shatters who could possibly predict how far to the right the pieces will fall. The liberal left will then wash their hands, but it won’t sweeten them.

Whatever emerges, they have created it!

I hope the lesson of what is happening in America isn’t lost on us.

We too are drawn to those same false prophets, even the DUP has succumbed. How long before a reaction sets in and those pieces, and the lie, are recast into another brash image of the truth?

Mainstream politics is failing in America and failing here. We can only hope the winds of change blowing our way, blow gently.
