Why would May think the EU will change its mind?

You are a fool. You signed a legal agreement with the European Union without disclosing its content.

‘Your word is your bond’ does not apply to you. You are the only Prime Minister in history to have been found in contempt of Parliament. You agreed that five days would be allowed for Parliament to discuss your deal – yet again you broke your word.

There is no fool like an old fool. Why would you go back to the European Union thinking that the legal document you signed will be changed? The European Union says it will stand by Ireland and Leo Varadkar loves to repeat that the backstop is essential.

The British attorney general was forced to produce written evidence that the backstop could be permanent.

What people must realise is that the backstop means that Northern Ireland will be governed by Brussels, and we will have no politicians in Brussels to argue on our behalf.
