A spokesman for Belfast Trust said two other men injured in the incident were now “stable”.

Mr Humphrey said: “I am deeply saddened to hear of the incident in Woodvale Drive this morning, in what is a quiet and settled residential area.

“I am relieved to hear that none of the injuries sustained are considered serious or life-threatening.

“I would urge anyone having information relevant to what occurred to assist the PSNI with their investigation.”

Police are investigating whether the incident was related to an earlier row.

Superintendent Darrin Jones has appealed for witnesses to come forward.
