Pensioner dies in County Londonderry crash

A woman aged in her seventies died following a two vehicle road collision which happened in County Londonderry on Saturday (February 11), police have said.

Police confirmed the woman’s death following the collision on the Hillhead Road, near Castledawson.

The incident involved a red Kia and a black Mazda around 10.40 am near the Creagh Road.

Three other people were taken to hospital but their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Part of the Hillhead Road was closed but it has since reopened.

Inspector Gavin Sterling appealed for witnesses. "The road traffic collision occurred near the Creagh Road," he said.

"I would ask anyone who may have witnessed this, or either car in the area this morning, to contact Magherafelt Police Station or the Collision Investigation Unit on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 434 of 11/02/17."
