Air ambulance rushed to Mourne mountains after walker takes ill - man sadly passes away at scene

Emergency crews were rushed to the Mourne mountains yesterday after a walker took ill.

According to a post on Mourne Mountains Rescue Team, they received a call for help yesterday at 2pm asking them to “assist a walker who had taken ill while walking close to the Windy Gap near Slieve Moughanmore”.

The post adds: “His walking companion and other walkers nearby provided initial assistance until the arrival of the NI Air Ambulance.

“Unfortunately, despite the efforts of all, he was pronounced deceased on scene.

“The team recovered the deceased by stretcher carry and vehicle transfer into the care of undertakers.

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of the deceased.”
