In a Facebook post, Helena Young from the Meadow & Armagh road community association said: "Following concerns raised about the deaths of of a number of pet cats in College Gardens/ Violet Hill Avenue area, I have spoken to both the USPCA and Environmental Health this morning.
"It seems because cats are free roaming animals that nothing very much can be done about this situation.

"The owners of at least 4 of these cats had to watch their family pets suffer the most excruciating death, it has been awful for them.
"It is possible that up to 10 cats have been poisoned in the last 2-weeks.
"I would ask that the person/people responsible for this please stop immediately.

"Another concerning issue is that poisonous substances are potentially being left around the locality and this could present other dangers to residents".
The PSNI have been made aware of the post and asked for a comment.
