Coastguard assists in rescue of woman from rocks at Ballintoy Harbour - ambulance takes casualty to hospital

A woman has been taken to hospital after falling on rocks at Ballintoy Harbour in Co Antrim.

The rescue operation happened around 3pm today.

The woman was rescued by Ballycastle and Coleraine HM Coast Guard teams.

She was then transferred by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service to hospital.

A spokesman from Ballycastle Coastguard said: “We were tasked to a callout at 3pm after the report of a 58-year-old woman falling on the rocks at Ballintoy Harbour.

“We assisted the ambulance crew to recover her to the ambulance”.

A spokesman from Ballycastle Coastguard, who was also involved in the rescue, added: “We have had more callouts in recent weeks with accidents than normal for this time of the year.

People need to be careful on the coast”.

A spokesman from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said they received a 999 call at 2.55 PM “following reports of an incident at Harbour Road, Ballintoy”.

“NIAS dispatched one Rapid Response Paramedic and one Emergency Crew to the scene.

“Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene one patient was transported by ambulance to the Causeway Hospital, Coleraine”.

Ballintoy Harbour, a NI beauty spot, can be discovered in the picturesque village of Ballintoy.

It is located alongside the B15 coast road, 17 miles north-east of Coleraine and five miles west of Ballycastle.

The picturesque harbour has been used as a filming location in HBO’s epic series Game of Thrones.
