Coronavirus: James Nesbitt narrates 100th birthday video tribute to Captain Tom Moore

The Cold Feet star lent his distinctive tones to a poem paying tribute to the veteran for his incredible fundraising efforts for the NHS.

The 48-second video is hoped to help Captain Tom hit £30m for NHS Charities as health workers continue to battle the coronavirus pandemic.

The Northern Ireland-born actor’s reading pays tribute to how the veteran captured the hearts of the nation by walking 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday on Thursday.

“When our NHS needed us most, one man walked forward with a tale to tell that captured our hearts and we became engrossed,” Nesbitt reads on the video message.

“He has brought a people together with drive and determination in our hour of need and most challenging time.

“A war veteran from one frontline encouraging each and every one of us to support those fighting this time.

“As he approaches his 100th year and so much in the world gone wrong, we tip our cap to you Captain Tom, a man who has made us all belong.”

The video was created by Mammoth and has been endorsed by NHS Charities Together to boost the fundraising efforts.

By yesterday afternoon, Captain Tom had raised over £29.4m on his Just Giving page.

Captain Tom’s 100th birthday will be marked today with an RAF flypast.

The Ministry of Defence said the flypast would “celebrate Captain Tom’s birthday and mark his amazing fundraising achievement”.
