It seems 48 year-old Jones sent his old British passport off to be renewed in the Northern Ireland Regional Passport Office on Victoria Street in Belfast.

A member of staff who assisted in the renewing of Jones’ passport recognised who he was from the information contained within his old passport.

The employee, known only as Shelley, gave Jones plenty to smile about when, along with his old passport, she included a brief note.

Moon is awesome - Shelley from Belfast,” read the note.

Jones made his feature directorial feature film debut with his awarding winning 2009 movie ‘Moon’ starring Sam Rockwell.

Jones, who also directed the brilliant 2011 film ‘Source Code’ was clearly pleased with Shelley’s message as he went out of his way to snap a photograph of his old passport with the note and shared it with his 350,000 Twitter followers on Tuesday evening.

“No YOU’RE awesome, Shelley at the passport office in Belfast!,” tweeted Jones.

Jones’ tweet along with the picture went viral within minutes and at the time of publishing it had been liked almost 2,000.

“Classy work there Belfast Shelley. Making the hometown proud,” replied Scottish born artist, Andrew Bailie, who was raised in Northern Ireland.

One man asked Jones if his new passport was one of the blue non-European Unions ones that will be used by British citizens at the end of the Brexit transition period on December 31, 2020.

“No!  Bootiful burgundy,” replied Jones.

Jones’ father was world famous music icon David Bowie, who passed away in January 2016 at the age of 69.

Jones’ is signed up to direct ‘Rogue Trooper’ - the film will be based on the science fiction strip from British comic ‘2000 AD’.
