Former RUC man from Larne was passionate road racing fan

Hamilton Robinson, who passed away peacefully at Antrim Area Hospital, was well-known in Larne and the the surrounding area.

He was a member of the Royal Ulster Constabulary during his working life and donations in lieu of flowers were encouraged to The Royal Ulster Constabulary George Cross Police Service of Northern Ireland Benevolent Fund.

Known to his many friends as Hilton, he was a faithful member of Cairncastle LOL 692 for over 70 years and also a dedicated member of Glenarm Masonic Lodge.

Cairncastle LOL in a tribute said: “Bro Robinson was a lifelong member and stalwart of our Lodge. He was a member of our Lodge for 73 years, an achievement not many will reach.

“Our thoughts and prayers go to our member and his brother, Bro Jack Robinson and the entire family circle”.

Passionate about Irish motorcycle road racing, Hilton spent many happy hours in the Isle of Man following his hero, the late Joey Dunlop.

He and his wife Elizabeth developed long-lasting relationships with people in the Isle of Man that remain strong to the present day.

He passed away after a spell of illness (not Covid related) and the funeral service was held at Gardenmore Presbyterian Church on February 16. Owing to present restrictions only 25 people including the minister and organist were allowed inside the church.

He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Elizabeth, and was pre-deceased by his daughter Tania.
