Missing dog creates online storm on PSNI Facebook

A PSNI Facebook post asking for information about a missing dog has created an online sensation.

Initally Police Ards & North Down posted a ‘request for some help in Movilla Road area of Ards’.

The initial post said: “At about 9pm a lady was at the Spar shop in Stratheden and asked a group of young children to look after her 2 dogs as she was in the shop.

“When she came out there was only one dog and she was informed that the 3 boys had taken the other dog down the Movilla Road.

“The dog answers to “Reggie”, is about white cross breed and about 9” tall.

“This is well over an hour ago now and still no sign of the dog. Can everyone keep an eye out in the area and let us know by 101 if you see the dog potentially running free or tied up somewhere”.

A later post added a picture of ‘Reggie’.

It said: “Also the young girl that held her other dog then ran off was described as wearing a multi coloured top if that helps.

“This may well have been a bit of a prank that went wrong and all we really need is to the dog returned.

“Still out looking and again thanks to those out helping us.”

But a later post appeared to offer more clarification to the situation.

“Folks we have spoken to some of the kids,” said the post.

“Not as first thought and the dog managed to escape from the kids minding it for the lady.

“They tried to get it back but ran off into Whitethorn area.

“Totally innocent it now seems and thank you very much for the kids and their families for clarification.

“ Still hunting for Reggie now in Whitethorn and he should still have his lead on him.”

Messages underneath the posts from the public indicated that a lot of people fromt he area had joined in the search for ‘Reggie’ and the depth of public concern for the lady whose little four-legged friend had gone missing.
