The 27-year-old mother had been looking forward to the birth of her son to complete her family, her best friend has said.
The vigil took place just hours after a man had appeared in court charged with her murder and child destruction.
21. PACEMAKER PRESS BELFAST 02-07-2025: A vigil was held in Co Down this evening for mum-of-two Sarah Montgomery. The 27-year-old Ð who was around 34 weeks pregnant with a baby boy Ð was found dead at her home in the Elmfield Walk area of Donaghadee on Saturday afternoon. Earlier today, Zak Hughes (28), of Ardglen Place, Belfast, appeared at Newtownards Magistrates Court charged with Ms MontgomeryÕs murder and destroying the life of her unborn child. This evening, the local community held a vigil for Ms Montgomery, in collaboration with the North Down & Ards WomenÕs Aid group. Beginning at 6.30pm, mourners gathered at the Donaghadee Resource Centre and walked the short distance to Ms MontgomeryÕs home. Attendees were encouraged to wear anything with the colour purple.
