Tears and sadness at death of ‘talented’ Bryan with the ‘gentle soul’

Tributes are being paid to a “talented” footballer from Northern Ireland who died following a road traffic collision at the weekend.

Bryan ‘Bru’ Magill (25) was one of three people to die following the two vehicle collision in Co. Louth in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Mother and son, Mary Faxton (88) and son Kevin Faxton (58), from Bessbrook, Co. Armagh also lost their lives as a result of the collision.

Another man who was in the same vehicle as Mr. Magill was taken to hospital in Drogheda but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Mr. Magill, from Newry, played for local football team Archview United FC.

The club paid tribute to “one of our top men” by posting a message on their Facebook page.

“All at the club are heartbroken by the untimely death of one of our top men Bryan (Bru) Magill,” wrote Archview United.

“‘Bru’ will always be remembered by all of us as a gentleman.

“Sleep easy our kid.

“Shout at us from above,” added the club.

Rival club, Greenfield Park FC, said Mr. Magill would be “sorely missed”.

“The thoughts of everyone at Greenfield are with Brian’s family, friends and everyone associated with Archview at at this time.

“A talented footballer and great lad, will be sorely missed. RIP Bru,” said Greenfield Park FC.

A close friend said Mr. Magill was “one of the nicest fellas” he had ever met.

“Absolutely heartbroken for Brian,” he said.

“One of the nicest fellas you’d ever meet always had time for you - a real gentleman,

“Thoughts are with the whole family at this time, RIP Bru.”

Fighting back tears, one of Mr. Magill’s cousins said she was devastated at his death and described him as having a “gentle soul”.

“Our hearts are broken - RIP cousin, Bru Bryan Magill,” she said.

“It’s true when they say God only takes the good - such a gentle soul who lived their life to the full - shine bright up there.”

Mr. Magill is survived by his parents, Joey and Yvonne and siblings Donna, Elizabeth, Joe and Caolin.
