Tributes pour in for ‘hard working,thoughtful, reflective and enthusiastic’ former councillor

Mr Carr had represented the Warrenpoint area on Newry, Mourne and Down Council as a SDLP Councillor for many years.

In a post former SDLP leader Margaret Ritchie said: “I was saddened to learn of the untimely death of a dear colleague Michael Carr who passed away this morning.

“Michael represented the Warrenpoint area on the Council for many years until 2019.

“Michael was also a former member of Warrenpoint Harbour Authority.

“He was hard working,thoughtful, reflective and enthusiastic about issues in the Crotlieve area.

“I always enjoyed working with him and valued his friendship and support.

“My sympathies and prayers to Kay, family, and the wider Carr family. May Michael Rest In Peace.”

Other messages of sympathy include one from former SDLP leader Alasdair McDonnell on social media.

“Deepest sympathy to Kay and the family,” it says. “Michael was a wonderful public servant we all owe him so much. RIP Michael”

Funeral details on funeraltimes.com say that Mr Carr will be sorely missed by his wife Kay, children and wider family circle.

It adds that his funeral Mass can be viewed from St. Peter’s Church, Warrenpoint on Tuesday at 12noon followed by interment in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
