It is reportedly in connection with the failed dissident murder attempt on a prison officer in Belfast last Friday, claimed by the ‘New IRA’ (although the police had not put any information on their press line, or on their west Belfast division’s social media accounts).

One source at the scene described it as a “major” operation.

It centred on Twinbrook, to the south-west of the city.

In Andersonstown, another district in the republican-dominated south-west, dissidents tried to murder police during an anti-crime operation in the run-up to Christmas.
