Police carry out searches on day of terrorist's funeral

The PSNI carried out two searches in north Belfast on the day that UDA figure John Boreland's funeral was held.

Boreland was shot dead in Sunningdale Gardens in north Belfast on Sunday, August 7.

He had previously been warned about threats to his safety.

On Saturday morning, police said a car was seized by police during one of the north Belfast searches, and has been removed for further examination.

Boreland’s funeral was held at the Moravian Church on the Oldpark Road, north Belfast, on Saturday.

Among the mourners present was his associate, Andre Shoukri.

The reference book Lost Lives states that the UDA/UFF, of which Boreland was a member, was responsible for killing 431 people between 1970 and 2006.
