Police investigate attempted murder bid in Co Tyrone

A 45-year-old man escaped injury after an attempted murder bid in Cookstown when shots were fired at a house in the early hours of yesterday.

Police in Cookstown - who are trying to establish a motive for the incident - are appealing for information after two shots were fired through the living room window of the house on the Tullyveagh Road area of the town.

Police received a report about the incident shortly after 3am on May 17.

It is believed a shotgun was used.

“A 45 year-old man was in the house at the time, but was not injured,” a PSNI spokesman said.

Detective Constable Paula McGale said: “I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the Tullyveagh Road area at the time, or who may have information about the incident to contact detectives at Cookstown on 101.

“Alternatively, information can be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
