Police know cause of Greenisland man's death... but decline to reveal it

His hands were bound and he was stabbed in the chest at his home at Station Road in Greenisland, east Antrim, and police launched a murder investigation following the discovery of his body on Monday.

However, whilst he had suffered a stab wound police said they still needed a post-mortem to firmly establish what he died of.

The PSNI said on Wednesday night that whilst this had been done, “at this stage we are not disclosing the results”.

Asked why, the force said: “The decision has been taken for investigative reasons.”

Meanwhile, police said a 23-year-old man held in relation to his death was released unconditionally on Wednesday night.

An extra 36 hours had been granted to quiz two other people arrested in connection with the crime earlier on Wednesday.

The pair – a 29-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man – are still understood to be in custody over the discovery of the 67-year-old retired plumber’s body.

On Wednesday afternoon police remained at the scene of the crime, just a few dozen yards from Greenisland train station.
