Police laboratory '˜will cut time it takes to bring cases to court'

The justice minister was joined by primary school children when he visited a mock crime scene at a new police forensic science centre.

David Ford attended the official opening of the £13.9m laboratory between Carrickfergus ad Greenisland on Wednesday, and pledged that as further improvements are made to the lab it will help speed up the time it takes to bring cases to court.

The facility is known as the Locard Building, after the father of forensic science, Edmond Locard.

The minister – who was joined by pupils from Acorn Integrated Primary School in Carrick who observed a reconstruction of a crime scene – said: “Together with a new IT system which will come on line later this year, productivity will increase and turnaround times will improve, ultimately speeding up the time it takes to bring cases to court, and supporting my policy of faster, fairer justice.”
