Police: We are treating Conan's death as murder

Police have confirmed the death of a 22-year-old Belfast man and say they are treating his death as murder.

Conan Anderson passed away in hospital on Saturday after he was admitted with serious head injuries on the evening of Monday, February 6.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Montgomery said: “The matter was reported to police on Wednesday 8th February and enquiries established that an incident had occurred in the early hours of Monday morning in the Arthur Lane area of Belfast.

“A 27-year-old man was arrested in north Belfast on Thursday 9th February on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and later released on police bail pending further enquiries.”

Detective Chief Inspector Montgomery continued: “I am now treating Conan’s death as murder and I am appealing for anyone with any information about the incident at Arthur Lane in the early hours of Monday 6th February or any information which could be of assistance to my investigation to contact detectives at Musgrave Street quoting reference number 1034 08/02/17. Information can also be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
