Ian Paisley Jnr gives Michael Gove and Conservative MPs a dressing down in House of Commons over NI Protocol

Ian Paisley Jnr didn’t hold back when he stood in the House of Commons on Wednesday afternoon and chastised the United Kingdom government and Conservative MPs for what he claims has “ruined trade in Northern Ireland”.

Mr. Paisley also described a comment made by Prime Minister Boris Johnson concerning “teething problems” with the Northern Ireland Protocol as an “insult”.

“What did we do? What did we do to members on those benches over there to be screwed over by this Protocol?

“Ask your hearts, every single one, what did we do? Because what has happened to this Protocol it is ruined trade in Northern Ireland and it is an insult to our intelligence to say it is a teething problem. Tell that to my constituents.”

He added: “This grace period needs to be extended by at least 12 months.”

Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Michael Gove, responded

“I am grateful for the constructive steps he has taken thus far but he is absolutely right, more needs to be done.”
