Keith and Kristyn Getty to be honoured with the Freedom of the City of Lisburn - Grammy nominated duo penned modern hymn 'In Christ Alone'

The event takes place at Lisburn Civic Centre on Thursday morning.

The official ceremony takes place in the council chamber and will be followed by a tree-planting ceremony.

This will be followed by a civic luncheon and performances by pupils from Friends’ School Lisburn and Pond Park Primary School, both of which Keith attended as a pupil.

In the afternoon there will be a special performance by New Irish Arts and Keith and Kristyn.

The Getty’s flagship hymn ‘In Christ Alone’, which is sung by an estimated 100 million people around the world each year, was written and recorded in Lisburn.

The award follows the couple’s Grammy nomination for the album Confessio – Irish American Roots, which was described by the couple as their “love letter” to Northern Ireland.

Next month the couple are also hosting the Sing! Europe Conference at the SSE Arena in Belfast - on Friday 16 June.

World renowned author and mathematician John Lennox, who is from Armagh, will speak at the event on science and faith.

The special four-hour conference will feature teaching, creative artistry and singing from classical and gospel musicians.

The conference kickstarts the pair's Sing! World Tour, which begins at the same venue the day afterwards.
