‘Thanks for coming along’ - UUP leader Steve Aiken bumps elbows and thanks Sinn Fein MLAs for Armistice Day mark of respect

Ulster Unionist Party leader, Steve Aiken, made a point of thanking Sinn Fein MLA, Declan Kearney, who, along with party colleagues John O’Dowd and Alex Maskey observed a moment of silence to mark Remembrance Day in Stormont on Wednesday morning.

At 11.00am, Alex Maskey, led MLAs from all political parties, including Sinn Fein and SDLP, in observing a moment of silence for all those to have lost their lives in wars.

The gathering was broadcast live on niassembly.tv.

As the moment of silence ended and MLAs started to exit the chamber, Steve Aiken, went to Sinn Fein MLA Declan Kearney and thanked him for attending.

“Thanks very much for coming along - it is much appreciated,” said Mr. Aiken.

Separately, Mr. Aiken also thanked Sinn Fein MLAs John O’Dowd and Alex Maskey on Twitter.

The moment of silence takes place every year at 11.00am on November 11 as this was the time and date the First World War ended in 1918.

The day is known as both Remembrance Day and Armistice Day.
