Tory MP Andrea Jenkyns embarrasses herself by tweeting 200 year-old out of date Union Flag that does not include Northern Ireland

Conservative MP, Andrea Jenkyns, was left red faced on Thursday morning when she tweeted a Union Flag that excludes Northern Ireland and which has not been used in more than 200 years.

Ms. Jenkyns tweeted the Flag of Great Britain (1707 to 1801) with the caption: "#VoteConservative #ElectionDay".

The tweet remained on Twitter for more than a hour before it was subsequently deleted by Ms. Jenkyns.

"They wrap themselves in it but they don't know what it even is," tweeted Scottish journalist, Otto English.

One man joked: "I see @andreajenkyns is pro United Ireland.

"If that the official @conservatives stance now?"

The current Union Flag was formally adopted in 1801.
