Possible link in spate of Co Down burglaries

Police are investigating a link between a number of burglaries in the south Down area on Friday.

Houses were entered and ransacked at a number of locations in Newry, Warrenpoint, Hilltown and Rostrevor.

A black VW Golf car, which was reported to have been at the scene of a break-in at Levallyreagh Road, Rostrevor was later located in Lisburn.

District commander Superintendent Paul Reid asked householder to be vigilant, and added: “This car has now been seized and will be examined for investigative and forensic opportunities.

“I would like to reassure the south Down community that we are making every effort to find those responsible for these crimes.”
