PSNI step up patrols to protect deer

‘Operation Wild Deer’, as the project is known, had previously seen officers patrol in the Cookstown and Fermanagh areas.

More recently, police officers in have been carrying out patrols in the Strabane area.

Inspector David McIlwaine said: “Deer poaching is a crime like other crimes and will be investigated as such when a report is made to local police.

“Local officers will be trained in wildlife crime in the coming months.

“Police officers have been carrying out extra patrols in the area.

“We would ask members of the public to report any suspected wildlife crime to local police on 101 or confidentially on the Crimestoppers number 0800 555 111.”
