Reported in the News Letter on January 16, 1929: Extra beds to cope with Belfast influenza crisis
Additional accommodation has had to be provided by the authorities of the Belfast Union, in order to cope with the influenza epidemic in the city.
According to Dr R Hall, medical officer of the Union, an additional ward, which was opened last week, was filled with patients within twenty-four hours.
The nursing staff, too, has not been immune and 17 of its members are suffering from the disease; while innoculation is being carried out to prevent further spread of the infection.
General satisfaction was expressed at yesterday’s meeting of the Board of Governors with the precautions which are being taken.
