Reported in the News Letter on January 16, 1929: Sea tragedy in Connemara leaves six dead

Three men and three girls from Comus, Connemara, missing since Sunday night [January 13], are now reported to have been drowned.

The party had crossed an inlet of sea in two boats to attend a dance at Comus but, finding the dance had been postponed, they crowded into one boat to return home.

The boat and a broken oar washed ashore yesterday morning. Later all six bodies were recovered. The three girls were 17, 19 and 21. The men were all under 30.
