Six officers injured after stolen car rams police vehicles

Six police officers were injured and three police vehicles damaged after collisions with a stolen car in Co Antrim last night.

Four people were arrested as the PSNI used the police helicopter to trace suspects following a creeper style burglary in the Lynda Meadows area of Newtownabbey.

Shortly before 11.45pm police received a report of persons acting suspiciously in Lynda Meadows.

Police responded and observed two males in the area who made off from officers. Officers on the ground, with the assistance of the police helicopter, located the two males in the Circular Road area a short time later. The males, aged 17 and 19, were arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary.

Shortly before 1.45am, while officers were conducting follow up enquiries in Lynda Meadows, a suspected stolen car rammed two police vehicles and made off from the area.

The stolen car was followed towards Belfast by officers on the ground and the PSNI helicopter. The car rammed another police vehicle on Cullingtree Walk before the occupants abandoned it and made off on foot. With assistance from the Helicopter officers arrested two males, aged 15 and 16, a short time later on suspicion of burglary and a number of motoring offences.

All four suspects remain in custody assisting police with their enquiries.
